Kaura Bali lines the rice terraces just above a dense jungle valley dotted with quiet villages, waterfalls, temples and 9 hectares of farmland. Serenity, lush green surroundings, and spectacular ocean views await.

VILLAGE WALK
THE MANGGIS STORY
It all began with rice. Manggis relies mainly on agriculture (in particular rice crops), animal farming and tourism-based remittances for subsistence and income. With the decline of tourism between 2019 and 2021, more and more villagers returned from their jobs in hospitality further afield. The pressure thereof, multiplied by a lack of proper infrastructure to allow water to flow across the many rice fields, massively impacted the entire community.
This is when, in December 2019, our sister company Discova stepped in. Together with Bali Rare Paduraksa (BRP)*, the initial irrigation issue was fixed. With a stronger water supply, new practices could be introduced: educational workshops were established to teach the local farmers about organic and alternative, sustainable farming methods. The organic rice fields you will see around Kaura Bali and the women’s farmer group greenhouse are examples of the success of that. Working together with the local

and BRP, Discova’s project resuscitated the prosperity of Manggis and its people. Today, Cross Hotels & Resorts, Discova and the local villagers work together to foster the continued growth of Manggis through Kaura Bali.
*BRP is an independent association which educates farmers about organic and sustainable farming opportunities in Bali.
